ZTE Grand S has finally been unveiled at CES 2013. Here we take a look at its specs, features & price

After long rumors, ZTE has officially announced its 5-inch FullHD phablet the Grand S at CES 2013. The device has been in rumors for a long time and now the Chinese company has come up with the handset at the tech trade fair. It is equipped with a range of quality specs that make it a rival to all its alternatives – both released and upcoming. From a quad core processor, to 5-inch FHD display to a heavy rear camera, everything is fine with the machine. Here we make a look into its major features.

In fact, Grand S comes as an advanced successor to ZTE’s former flagship handsets like the Grand Era and Grand X. The major difference is that the new handset has a larger 5-inch FullHD display. Anyway, this article is a detailed rundown to the major features, specs of the handset.

ZTE Grand S Tech Specs
Display and Size: The ZTE handset features a 5-inch 1080p capacitive touchscreen that offers a pixel density of 441-ppi. The size and weight of the handset are not known. Anyway, it is extremely thinner with a 6.9mm body. Well, the company’s former handsets the Grand Era and Grand X respectively have 4.5-inch and 4.3-inch displays, at the same time.

Processor, Memory: Apart from the Grand Era’s 1.5GHz quad core CPU, the new device has a 1.7GHz quad core processor. ZTE is yet to tell what type of chipset the device would have. Anyway, it has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. For further memory, you can use the microSD slot for mounting up to 32GB memory sticks.

Camera: Similar all other FullHD phablets, the ZTE phone is sporting a 13MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash, geo-tagging and face detection. The camera can shoot video at 1080p quality and it also has a 2MP front camera for capturing video at 1080p. So users can enjoy more clarity in video chatting as well. The Era and X respectively have 8MP and 5MP rear cameras.

Connectivity: Well, all advanced options for connectivity are up with the handset. For cellular data connectivity, it has GPRS, EDGE, HSPA+ and 4G LTE. Meanwhile, other connectivity facilities include Wi-Fi, dual band, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, NFC and microUSB port.

Battery: The handset packs a 1780mAh battery that is non-removable. It is not good news for those, who used to carry extra batteries to meet battery drain issue on the way.

Price, Availability: ZTE is to reveal the handset officially in China in the first quarter of the year. Later, it will be made available in the U.S. and other markets, ZTE says. The company has also missed to mention its possible price, however.

ZTE Grand S Rivals
A huge collection of 1080p FullHD handsets are ready for battle with the ZTE phone. Many companies have so far announced or launched their versions of phablets for the year. At CES, we witnessed to the release of Sony Xperia Z, Lenovo K900 and Huawei Ascend D2. Before CES, devices like HTC Droid DNA, Oppo Find 5 and Sharp Aquos Phone had come to the market. More such handsets with the same potentials are about to come to the fore in the coming months.

Well, Samsung’s next generation Galaxy S4 will be one. The South Korean tech maker is reportedly working on a 5-inch FullHD Galaxy S4 with many rich features and a heavy camera. The device is rumored to sport a fresh version of Samsung Exynos chipset, a 13MP rear camera, a slim body and more. Hence, things will not be much good and lucrative for ZTE since the market is already rich with too many 1080p handsets.

The loophole that ZTE can take advantage is in the pricing of the phone. The company used to sell its products for small prices. Therefore, we can certainly expect a small price for the new phablet as well. It may attract many customers to the machine over its competitors. But the company has not yet announced its price for the device.
