Young researchers felicitated with cash prize
ALIGARH: The Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah today felicitated students and faculty members of the Department of Mathematics for their notable achievements.
Lt. Gen. Shah felicitated Dr. Asif Khan with Young Teacher of the Year Award carrying a cash prize of Rs. fifteen thousand and a certificate of appraisal. He also presented a cash prize of Rs. ten thousand to Dr. Khursheed Jamal as Best PhD Thesis Award.
Professor Sultana N. Nahar, Department of Astronomy, Ohio State University, USA, awarded two annual prizes in Mathematics to promote excellence in academics and research in this field.
Addressing on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Shah appreciated the efforts of Prof. Sultana N. Nahar in the field of Muslim education. He said that the Department of Mathematics of this University has been ranked as the 69th best Mathematics Department in the world and there is no doubt in it finding a place amongst the best few with hard work, focus and result oriented research. He urged the faculty members to keep their profiles updating on the University website.
Prof. Sultana N. Nahar of Ohio State University said that AMU is a pride for Indian Muslims. She said that such felicitations have long lasting impact and provide as inspiration to young researchers, which ultimately help in raising the academic standard of an institution.
In his welcome address, Prof. M. Mursaleen, Chairman, Department of Mathematics said that the two prizes have been introduced by Prof. Sultana N. Nahar from her personal income. She has pledged a sum of US dollar 5000 as capital amount or endowment for this purpose.
