Xiaomi Redmi 2 sold out in 2 minutes: flash sale to be killed
Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi launched its Redmi 2 flash sale –first for the new version of the Redmi 1S – in the Indian market. Both Xiaomi and its retailing partner Flipkart claim that as many as three lakh people registered to buy the phone.
Despite so many people registering for the new version of one of the cheapest and very well-endowed handset, only one sixth of them were able to buy the handset from Flipkart. This is because of the fact that only fifty thousand units of the handsets were up for grab during the flash sale.
Both Xiaomi and Flipkart have said that the new version of very successful Redmi 1S was sold out within less than two minutes. After the flash sale a Xiaomi official in a tweet said that the handset was sold out within just 87 seconds after the opening of the sale. Given the fact that earlier flash sales used to end in just 3-8 seconds, this seems a very long duration indeed.
Now there are also indications that the company is all set to give up flash sale for this handset and instead go for a regular sale policy. An Indian Express report quoting Hugo Barra, VP, Xiaomi says, †After a couple of rounds of flash sales on Flipkart, the Redmi 2 sale in India will be open like we did with the Redmi Note 4G and Mi 4 smartphones.â€
The new version of the Chinese smartphone maker’s entry level handset comes with 4.7-inch 720p HD IPS fully laminated display with AGC Dragontrail glass protection, Android 4.4.4 with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6, 8MP BSI f/2.2 rear camera with 28mm wide-angle 5-element lens and a 2MP BSI front camera with support for 720p video recording. It comes with 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU based on Cortex A53 with Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB ROM, 2,200 mAh battery with Quick Charge technology and expandable memory option through microSD card for up to 32GB.
