Aligarh: World Environment Week (5-11 June2011) was celebrated in the Department of Hifzan-e-Sehat wa Samaji Tib, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, AMU, Aligarh. Dr. M. Athar Ansari, Chairman,Â Department ofÂ Community Medicine, J. N. Medical College delivered a highly informative guest lecture on the topic â€œEffects of Nuclear Hazards on human health and its Preventionâ€ on this occasion.
Dr. Athar Ansari covered historical perspective and various nuclear accidents that occurred in different parts of the world including the recent one in Fukushima in Japan after the devastating tsunami. He also mentioned preventive measures as well as precautions to be taken if any nuclear tragedy occurs.
While presenting the inaugural speech, ÂDr. S. M. Safdar Ashraf, Chairman, Department ofÂ Hifzan-e-Sehat wa Samaji Tib/Nodal Officer (WHO), discussed various issues related to environment and enlightened the audience with new facts in regard with the environment and Nuclear Hazards.
Dr. Ashraf announced that a special lecture and vaccination camp for Hepatitis B will be organized next month on the eve of World hepatitis-B day. He mentioned that the facility of vaccination will be available for the students, teaching staff, research scholars and other staff of Tibbiva College. The staff of dawakhana and hospital can also avail this facility.
Dr. Anees A. Ansari,Â Department ofÂ Kulliyat encouraged the efforts of the Department of Hifzan-e-Sehat.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan, Dr. Farkhunda Jabeen, research scholars Naushad Ali Rana, Shazia Shamim and interns were among the audience. The faculty members, research scholars from other departments and students of BUMS got benefited with the lecture. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan.
The department also organized plantation of saplings in the premises of AKTC Hospital under the stewardship of Dr. S.M.S Ashraf. Prof. Mohd. AneesÂ Department ofÂ Botany and Member-In-Charge Lands and Gardens attended the ceremony as a special guest and planted a sapling. Dr. Saud Ali Khan Principal, AKTC, teaching staff, research scholars, interns and other staff members wee present on this occasion. Dr. Ashraf addressed the gathering and briefed them regarding the relation between plantation and preservation of environment. He requested the gathering to take a pledge to preserve the environment and remember their responsibilities in this regard. He also urged the teaching staff to publish public awareness articles in newspapers.
