Who is giving toughest fight to Donald Trump? If you had any doubt that it was Sen. Ted Cruz, it must have evaporated in this air as Donald Trump once again attacked him in a fashion that simply seems unimaginable.

He has been trying to question his nationality making it look like Se. Cruz was an illegal immigrant who somehow or the other was able to sneak into the debate without any invitation.

Though it was clear that it is going to be a no hold barred battle, not many thought that it will be so tough. So if Donald Trump was attacking him, Sen Cruz was not expected to sit still and not respond. Sen. Cruz said if he was not eligible to stand for President, so was Trump whose mother was born in Scotland.

While talking during the fiery debate, Cruz said, “At the end of the day, the legal issue is quite straightforward…I would note that the birther theories that Donald has been relying on, some of the more extreme ones insist that you must not only be born on U.S. soil but have two parents born on U.S. soil.”

He went on to emphasize the fact that he is a U.S. citizen because his mother was an American citizen at the time of his birth. Cruz said if he was to be disqualified as president, so would Trump. “Donald’s mother was born in Scotland. She was naturalized,” Cruz exclaimed. “But I was born here,” Trump fired back.

Cruz tried to reason why Trump is attacking him and said that Trump’s birther attacks stemmed from his rising poll numbers in Iowa. Trump acknowledged that he was bringing up the issue “because [Cruz] is doing a little bit better.” But Trump warned: “There is a big question mark on your head. And you can’t do that to the party….you have to have certainty.”

Trump tried to put Cruz on backfoot saying that Democrats will certainly raise the citizenship issue in the general election. “You have great constitutional lawyers that say you can’t run,” Trump said. “I’m not going to be taking legal advice from Donald Trump,” Cruz retorted.

Earlier in the undercard debate, Carly Fiorina attacked almost everyone including Hillary Clinton. “I haven’t spent my lifetime running for office…and unlike another woman in this race I actually love spending time with my husband,” Fiorina said referring to Democratic frontrunner, Hillary Clinton. “Clinton sits inside government and rakes in millions, handing out access and favors, and Donald Trump sits outside government and rakes in billions buying people like Hillary Clinton.”
