Who won the Republican debate last night? Jeb Bush or Donald Trump or someone else

The Republican debate was expected to be fiery. And fiery it was. Donald Trump who has been the man setting the agenda of almost all the debates thus far was attacked by his fellow Republican presidential hopefuls on his anti-Muslim views.

Donald Trump has not just attacked Muslims but other groups including undocumented immigrants and Mexicans and has said he will construct a huge wall on the US-Mexico border. He has also said he will deport al the undocumented immigrants to the nations from where they came.

But his most blistering attacks have been directed against Muslims and Islam. The Islamophobia that runs so deep among the Republicans has helped him get higher and still higher ratings. He has beaten all his Republican counterparts by miles in every poll conducted thus far.

His comments have attracted condemnations from not just Muslims but from others including the governments of many western nations. The Republican debate on Tuesday was the first since the attack in California and another in Paris.

One candidate who criticized the billionaire businessman was Jeb Bush. He sharply criticised front-runner Donald Trump in a debate for proposing to ban Muslims from entering the United States, calling him a “chaos candidate” adept at delivering one-liners.

Bush while talking about Donald Trump said, “Donald is great at the one-liners, but he is a chaos candidate and he would be a chaos president”. He went on to add that Trump’s Muslim plan was “not a serious proposal.” Nonetheless other candidates decided to keep mom on the issue. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz refused to bash Trump on Tuesday for his controversial proposal.

But the most blistering attack against Trump came from Lindsey Graham, a US senator from South Carolina. “Donald Trump has done the one single thing you can’t do: Declare war on Islam itself” said Graham and added that it is going to be the biggest tool in the hands of Daesh or ISIL to spread anti-West propaganda.
