Who won the GOP debate: Carly Fiorina on top in Republican debate, Donald Trump second best, say poll
Who won the GOP debate? This is a question that will not end in one or two days and the discussion will continue. Though latest polls suggest that Donald Trump’s popularity is surging and his appeal expanding, but as far as Republican primary debate on CNN is concerned, former HP boss Carly Fiorina seems to be the clear winner.
When the second primary debate was announced, many thought that real estate mogul, Donald Trump, will overshadow everyone else like he did in the first debate. Nonetheless opposite seemed to be true. Not just he failed to impress people, Carly Fiorina’s one liners ensured that former Hewlett Packard boss completely took the air out of Trump’s campaigning.
Now the numbers are out and the people who watched the debate have said it aloud as to who won the second Republican primary debate. Polls suggest that as many as twenty-nine percent of those who watched the debate said Fiorina won the contest, with businessman Donald Trump coming in second with 24 percent of the vote.
In the meantime Ben Carson continues to amaze the masses with his impressive performance. He has been perceived winner of the debate by around 7 percent of viewers. On the other hand former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s stock seems to be going down and down. He received 6 percent of the vote.
In the very beginning of the all important GOP debate CNN’s Jake Tapper made the following opening remark. “In an interview last week in Rolling Stone magazine, Donald Trump said the following about you. Quote, ‘Look at that face. Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?’ Mr. Trump later said he was talking about your persona, not your appearance. Please feel free to respond what you think about his persona†Tapper said. Fiorina was categorical in her response and while addressing larger female voters outside the studio said, “I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.â€
If that was not enough, her well informed response on foreign policy issue completely baffled Trump’s supporters. When asked what she would do to out Russians from Syria Fiorina had a well-laid out plan. “What I would do, immediately, is begin rebuilding the Sixth Fleet, I would begin rebuilding the missile defense program in Poland, I would conduct regular, aggressive military exercises in the Baltic states. I’d probably send a few thousand more troops into Germany. Vladimir Putin would get the message. By the way, the reason it is so critically important that every one of us know General Suleimani’s name is because Russia is in Syria right now, because the head of the Quds force traveled to Russia and talked Vladimir Putin into aligning themselves with Iran and Syria to prop up Bashar al- Assad†said she.
Trump was all blah, blah when asked the same question. “I would talk to [Putin]. I would get along with him. I believe — and I may be wrong, in which case I’d probably have to take a different path, but I would get along with a lot of the world leaders that this country is not getting along with…We don’t get along with China. We don’t get along with the heads of Mexico. We don’t get along with anybody, and yet, at the same time, they rip us left and right. They take advantage of us economically and every other way. We get along with nobody. I will get along — I think — with Putin, and I will get along with others, and we will have a much more stable — stable worldâ€, said Trump.
