Miss Universe 2015 mistake: Steve Harvey makes Miss Columbia cry as he crowns and then removes the crown

Steve Harvey’s mistake will remain etched in the minds of people across the world for years and years to come. Steve Harvey was behind a mistake that initially gave the crown to the Colombian contestant. And when the crown was firmly placed on her head and she was receiving applause from all around, came another announcement from him saying he had made a mistake and that the actual winner was Miss Philippines.

There is no denying the fact that almost everyone is taking a dig at Steve Harvey for the mistake that first gave the crown to Miss Columbia and then finally to Miss Philippines. It must be a massive heartbreak for the beauty from Columbia who was waving at the crowd as the glittering crown was placed on her head.miss-universe 2015
Later as the bewildered girl from Columbia and other contestants saw that the crown was removed from her head and placed on the head of the petite beauty from Philippine. The eventual winner and a mystified Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines besides other contestants rushed to console Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo of Colombia.

Harvey who looked embarrassed by the blunder made by him later apologized to everyone. “I feel horrible for this young woman,” he said. Later he went on to add that it was a mistake committed by him and him alone and that he would take responsibility for not correctly reading the card, which said that Wurtzbach was this year’s winner and Colombia was actually the first runner-up.

Later Wurtzbach said she felt conflicting emotions as the mistake happened: joy when she was told she had indeed won, concern for Colombia contestant Ariadna Gutierrez Aravelo and confusion at the whole situation. Wurtzbach said she tried to approach Aravelo onstage afterward, but the Colombian was crying and surrounded by a crowd of women. She said she realized it was, “probably bad timing.”

She went on to add, “I did not take the crown from her” and added that she wished the contestant from Colombia well and hoped the Latin American community understands that “none of this was my fault.” “None of this was done on purpose. It was an honest mistake,” she said, apologizing on behalf of the organization she now represents. She said Harvey told her afterward that she “should just enjoy the moment.”

In the meantime Donald Trump first castigated Harvey for the mistake and later said that he was a great guy. First he tweeted that “this never would have happened” under his watch. But he later called Harvey a “great guy” who handled it well. “I think I’d make them a co-winner. That’d be very cool…Things happen. It’s live television” he went on to add.
