They are close neighbors sharing thousands kilometers long borders extending from Karakoram heights to the plains of Gujarat. If you look at the neighbors you would be excused in believing that the two will have great business and sports relations.

This cannot be farthest from truth in the case of these two neighbors. While North and South Korea, despite long running animosity have a huge industrial complex where people from both the Koreas work together and both the nations share huge revenue running in billions of dollars, India and Pakistan don’t have anything similar.

Not just they don’t have much of economic relations, their sporting ties have become minimal in the last more than a decade. It is rare to see the two nations playing each other on cricket pitches.

shahid afridi awardAnd now when they are going to play in a long time, the enthusiasm couldn’t be higher. Both the teams have large number of cricket stars with tens of millions of fans in every nook and corner of the world.

The two old foes will take on each other in the most important match of the Asian Cup 2016. This is a great time for cricket fans from India and Pakistan. Both the nations face each other at least twice in the next three weeks. One will be in the Asia Cup and on March 19 during the World Twenty20 in Dharamsala.

There is no denying the fact that while March will provide an opportunity to Pakistan to erase the stigma of not having beaten India in an ICC event, Saturday will see India take another step towards winning back the trophy that eluded them in the past two editions. Led by skipper MS Dhoni, the India outfit has been churning out positive results in the past two series. A win over Pakistan will be the ultimate boost ahead of the WT20.

It must be kept in mind that Pakistani team is fresh from a great Pakistan Premier League. Indian captain has stressed many times in the last few weeks that they have a well-balanced side for the WT20. However, an encounter against Pakistan is the perfect litmus test for the team management to assess the players. With encounters in the WT20 likely to be keenly fought, a good showing in a high-stake Indo-Pak clash should be enough for the team to narrow down on its requirements ahead of the ICC event.
