After yesterday’s rather unexciting match between India and Pakistan, hosts Bangladesh are going to play another important match against island nation of Sri Lanka. Both the teams are going to do everything to perform well here tonight and win the match.

As Asia Cup is being played immediately before the T20 World Cup, the importance of the tournament has increased manifold. It will be a practice of the highest standard for the players of the teams playing in the tournament.

Bangladesh has suffered a loss and a win. While it lost a match against the neighboring India, the team was able to win a match against UAE. To be true it displayed great cricket against the minnows. Now it is going to undergo another test against a top of the line cricket side.

Notwithstanding the fact that Sri Lanka hasn’t remained the team that it was, it is still capable to beat the best side in any format. They have beaten the best sides in the past and given the circumstances and the Sub-continental condition, they can spring a surprise by being the grand slayer.

To be true when Sri Lanka were last in Bangladesh, in 2014, they seemed to be physically incapable of losing. Kumar Sangakkara spent so much time at the crease, the image of his backside is probably burned into wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim’s retinas. Lahiru Thirimanne was plundering runs at the top of the order. Nuwan Kulasekara’s inswing, and Lasith Malinga’s yorkers were humming. Even matches that Sri Lanka should have lost, were somehow turned around – often by outrageous performances, occasionally by umpiring error.

In the meantime Mahmudullah is in a terrific form. He arrived at No. 6 on Friday, and massaged his team’s total towards competitiveness, holding out until the final over to break into a sprint. His unbeaten 36 and 2 for 5, typified the kind of performance Bangladesh have now come to expect from Mahmudullah. He has been a backbone of the Bngladesh cricket and if fires up again today, the host team has its chances.
