New Delhi/ Lucknow: Despite lots of hue and cry there are a number of waqf properties that have been encroached upon by in different part of the country. But the irony is that the encroachment has been done not just by realtors but even state governments and other state agencies across the country.

In a response to RTI query by Intazar Nayeem it has come to the notice that in Uttar Pradesh even the government agencies have encroached the waqf properties.

According to the details of illegal encroachment by UP Government provided by Sunni Central Waqf Board there are 32 waqf properties that are in illegal possession of Uttar Pradesh Government. In Luknow alone there are 12 waqf properties that have been illegally occupied by UP government agencies.

The details shows that there are four properties in Itawah, three in Kanpur, three in Varanasi and  one each in Meerut, Hapur, Ghaziabad, Noida, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Muzaffar Nagar, Badaun, Eta and Deoria that have been encroached upon by Government agencies.

When we see the tenure of the Government it is very interesting that most of the waqf property have been encroached during the Congress Party rule. Remember Congress is the party that talks more than anyone else as far as the conservation of waqf property is concerned. Highest number of waqf properties were encroached upon by Government agencies during Veer Bahadur Singh tenure. Apart from him  one property during Sampoornanand (Congress)tenure, five in Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna (Congress), two in Ramnaresh Yadav (Janta Party), one in Banarsi das (Janta Party), five in VP Singh (congress)  four in Sri Pati Mishra (Congress), three in Narayan Dutt Tewari (Congress) tenure have been illegally occupied by Government agencies.
