It is getting very funny with Vishwaroopam being banned again after being allowed to be screened. Meanwhile Kamal Hassan has threatened to leave the country like MF Hussain

(NVONews.Com) Kamal Haasan’s latest flick, Vishwaroopam, has landed in a soup and is struggling to fight off the controversies surrounding it. The actor got a breather when the Madras High Court on Wednesday gave a ruling to lift the ban on the movie.

A ban was imposed on the theatrical release of Vishwaroopam after stiff opposition from the Muslim community to the content of the film. Some members of the community were upset with some portions in the movie which they felt stereotyped their image and associated them with negative elements. The ban has now been lifted by a court rule given out by Justice K. Venkatraman in an interim order. The film is scheduled to release without any further censorship.

The judgment came in after Kamal Haasan was asked to sort the matter with the government of Tamil Nadu, which supported the ban on the movie. Justice Venkatraman also saw the movie and found no point of objection.

Actor-filmmaker Haasan called the ban a sort of cultural terrorism, and said that the whole controversy is uncalled for. Vishwaroopam saw protests by some Muslim groups and its screening got banned in some parts of Hyderabad, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. The government of Tamil Nadu also imposed a two-week ban on the movie owing to the protests.

Vishwaroopam had the distributors in a bad mood because of Haasan’s insistence to premiere the movie on DTH platforms first. Now some of them fear even more bad news as the movie is expected to make a loss of around Rs 30 crore due to the delayed release.

Kamal Haasan’s brother Chandra Haasan, one of the producers of Vishwaroopam has said that they are looking at a loss in the range of Rs 30 to Rs. 80 crore due to the initial delay, and the fear of law and order will further add to the woes of cinema-goers.

The Rs. 95 crore thriller flick Vishwaroopam also stars Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Andrea Jeremiah along with Kamal Haasan in the lead role.

The removal of the ban on the movie’s screening is anything but a complete stop to the issue. The government of Tamil Nadu has appealed against the court order and based their objections to protect communal harmony. The government has deemed the movie’s censor certificate as bogus. Leela Samson, Head of Central Board for Film Certification called the allegations completely “unacceptable”. “We have certified hundreds and thousands of films…only with Vishwaroopam, you find it has not been done with due diligence? This is an infringement on freedom of expression,” she said.

Kamal Haasan the actor, director and producer of Vishwaroopam has claimed that this film is “one of the most Muslim-friendly films in recent times”. Southern superstars such as Rajnikanth, Ajith Kumar, Parthepan also opposed the ban and requested the members of the community to let peace prevail.

Some of the states in which the ban was imposed have started screening the movie albeit in heavy police protection. Many theatres are still awaiting the prints of the movies to reach them. Vishwaroopam though is doing exceptionally well in the overseas region, according to the experts of the trade. The Tamil film which has been dubbed and released in other languages such as Hindi, Telugu etc is doing great business in the US, collecting Rs. 3.43 crore, and Rs. 81.23 lakh in Britain.
