The film was made with an astronomical sum of Rs 900 million and the Vishwaroopam ban can cause Rs 300 million loss for Kamal Hassan. The Court has asked Hassan to settle the issue with concerned parties

‘Vishwaroopam’ controversy is going to linger for some more time to come as the latest Madras High Court verdict has failed to completely resolve the issue and has asked Kamal Hassan to settle the issue with the stakeholders including state government and the very influential Muslim community of the state.

For Kamal Hassan this must be a huge disappointment as his multi-million dollar flick that was expected to make huge amount of money is struggling for release in its most lucrative market, Tamil Nadu. Though the film was released in Hyderabad and Karnataka in two different versions of Telgu and Kannada, the screening in both the places was stopped following protests there too.

Madras High Court judge Justice K Venkataraman who personally saw the film in a private screening especially for him by the thespian asked the actor to resolve the issue with the government and the Muslims of the state who had demanded the ban on the movie that was set to be released mid-January. Kamal Haasan had petitioned the court against the ban on his film by the state government. He had challenged state government’s orders of prohibiting the release of his film on January 25. But the court said that it had to keep in mind the state government’s law and order concerns, communal amity in the state and also the actor’s investment in the movie. Justice K Venkataraman’s verdict is certainly not going to be music to the thespian’s ears.

He had denied the state Muslim community’s demand to provide a private screening of the film for a couple of leaders so the community can understand if it was not against the community as reports had suggested. M Jawahirulla, a member of the state assembly has said that he and other community leaders are asking the ban to preserve communal harmony in the state. Justice K Venkataraman while delivering his verdict said, “Why don’t you negotiate the matter and settle the issue amicably”? For Muslims in Tamil Nadu, the issue has become a major issue. They say the movie is inflammatory and will create division in the society. But Kamal Hassan in a latest statement has said that his film will make nationalist Muslims appreciate the movie that he himself has directed and also partly financed. But no one is ready to buy his argument.
