solar eclipse 2013There is no denying the fact that solar eclipse is mere a celestial phenomena occurring as a part of rotation among heavenly bodies. Nowadays the eclipse may be treated as a natural occurrence. But, things were too fascinating in ancient era. People cutting across the world believed different versions of stories around solar eclipse. Gone are the days when people believed that solar eclipse was part of some heavenly intervention on earthly affairs. People of tribal age tied the eclipse with their belief and gave different meaning for the same event.

Old civilizations like Abrahamic religions give special importance to occasions like solar eclipse. Chinese people were too obsessed with the heavenly event blaming a dragon that swallows the sun. They pledged to slain the dragon which may bring the end of the world. There were wonderful stories related with the solar predictions and conducting of rituals. According to the legend records Hi and Ho, two astronomers were beheaded thanks to failing to inform the emperor about the eclipse back in 2134 BC. The myths related with the eclipse got different editions among Indians and Indonesians.

You may laugh hearing the story of Vietnamese who believed that a giant frog would swallow the sun. Latin Americans blamed jaguar and the Siberians believed a vampire feasted on the orb. These beliefs may be eclipsed due to the emergence of reason and science. But, legends keep its flavor passing through generations. The dragon is the icon of power and victory for Chinese in the age of economic boom. Indians still enjoy some of their folk stories to find an amusing touch to the life.
