USA vs Guatemala soccer match won by USA 4-0: 2018 World Cup qualifying highlights
This was a completely one-sided match. It was a game that showed to the world that the United States men’s soccer team is in great shape and ready to leave its mark on the soccer world.
With the superb 4-0 win over Guatemala, the US men’s soccer team got back on track for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. The four goals came thanks to exceptional performances of Graham Zusi, Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey and Geoff Cameron.
The match was important for both the teams. Following a poor 2-0 loss at Guatemala City on Friday night in which coach Jurgen Klinsmann played several players out of their most comfortable positions, Klinsmann made five lineup changes and shifted two others into their more usual spots. Dempsey scored 12 minutes in and Cameron doubled the lead in the 35th. Zusi added a goal just 20 seconds into the second half and Jozy Altidore capped the scoring in the 89th.
In the meantime in other matches, Jesus Corona and Andres Guardado scored first-half goals as Mexico beat Canada 2-0 to become the first country to clinch a berth in the six-team final round of qualifying for the North and Central American and Caribbean region. Trinidad and Tobago won 6-0 at home against St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Sheldon Bateau scored Trinidad’s only goal in the first half before Kevin Molino, Joevin Jones and Kenwyne Jones padded the lead in the second. Trinidad leads the group with 10 points, 3 ahead of the U.S. and 4 ahead of Guatemala.
On the other hand Honduras won 2-0 over visiting El Salvador on goals by Romell Quioto and Oscar Boniek. In Group B, Costa Rica remained in the top spot after beating Jamaica 3-0. Johan Venegas, Ceslo Borges and Bryan Ruiz all scored for the Ticos.
