US President Barack Obama greets Modi on Diwali through hotlineÂ
This gesture is going to make the Indian Prime Minister whose party suffered a humiliating defeat in Bihar a lot better. US President Barack Obama called Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, through the newly established hotline and congratulated him on Hindu festival of Diwali.
Indian Prime Minister Modi’s party was crushed by a three party alliance in the third most populous state in the country. Bihar with a population of around 100 million people is a politically important state and such a loss has cast doubt on effectiveness of Mr Modi and his government.
After getting the call from Obama, Prime Minister Modi said, “A short while ago President of the United States called. We exchanged Diwali greetings. This was our first conversation through the newly established hotline…President Obama and I discussed a wide range of other issues as well. It was good knowing how White House is marking Diwali. ..President Obama and I look forward to meeting in Turkey during the G20 Summit”.
