In US Open tennis tournament 2011 Serena Williams has been ranked 29th among female players despite her illustrious past.

No one can say that the fire in Serena Williams to win more and more matches has diminished. Neither can anyone say that she has lost her touch. It is altogether another matter that she has failed to

Though she has been ranked 28th in the US Open tennis tournament, nonetheless, she is being counted among front runners to win the tournament . She has made successful  comebacks so many times, that it is hard to ignore whenever she enters the fray.

Lower the ranking in tournament, higher the chances of bumping into the best players of the tournament. A top ranked player has more chances to face low ranked player and opposite is the case if a player is ranked lower.

She is among one of the most flamboyant players in women tennis these days and despite injury marred career she has won 13 major championships.

Serena Williams, little sister of Venus Williams became the number one player at the age of 21, for the first time in the year 2002. She went on to regain the top ranking on five different occasions. Many tennis fans claim that she is the best tennis player in the history of women tennis.

Besides her 13 single grand slam victories she has won 12 doubles tournament and if I am not wrong she has collected more prize money than any other female tennis player.

She is going to get tough competition from top seeded Caroline Wozniackiand, Vera Zvonareva and fourth-ranked Maria Sharapova.
