Though the Spaniard gave tough fight, he eventually crashed out of U.S. Open in the third round after losing a five-set thriller to Italian Fabio Fognini.
This is going to be a very bad year for the ace tennis player. It will be the first time in the last eleven years that he will go home without winning any grand slam in a calendar year.
After his loss against the Italian player Fabio Fognini Nadal said, â€œThe only thing this means is I played worse than the last 10 yearsâ€¦That’s the real thing. By the way, for me it was amazing to win 10 years in a row a grand slamâ€.
There is no denying the fact that the 14-times Grand Slams winner is among the best players. Nonetheless he is witnessing some bad days right now. â€œYou can imagine how difficult it is to make that happen. I have to accept that it was not my year and keep fighting till the end of the season to finish in a positive wayâ€, said he as he sought to extract something positive from the loss.
Nonetheless he didnâ€™t allow an easy win to his Italian opponent. The match stretched to five rounds and Italian won the crucial match 3-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4. After the impressive win Fabio Fogninisaid, â€œI can’t describe how happy I amâ€¦It was very tough. To do it against Rafa, two sets down — it was an incredible matchâ€.
