Uproar in J&K Assembly as NC legislator calls speaker ‘Hindu fundamentalist’
Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir difference seems to be far too visible in the state assembly. It was chaos that brought the proceedings of Jammu and Kashmir legislative Assembly to a complete standstill on Wednesday.
The uproar in the assembly started as a National Conference legislator allegedly said that the speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative Assembly was a “Hindu fundamentalist”.
The alleged remarks were made by a National Conference (NC) legislator Javaid Rana’s. As the day’s proceedings started, many ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators stormed to the speaker’s podium protesting against Javaid Rana’s remark. The BJP legislators alleged that Rana had called Speaker Kavinder Gupta “a Hindu fundamentalist”.
But the other side didn’t remain calm and they started counter protests in the Assembly. National Conference legislators too tried to storm the podium following which the speaker asked them to calm down. During Question Hour, independent legislator Engineer Rashid advanced to the speaker’s podium to press his demand for the return of the mortal remains of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged in February 2013. The speaker then ordered the marshals to evict him from the house for interrupting the proceedings.
