Turnaround: Nintendo makes profit as Wii U sales up
Wii U seems to have given another round of hope to Nintendo. The company’s Wii U sales were substantially better than the last year and have defied the analysts’ warning about a slide in the sales.
Not just Wii U sales are up, the company has said that software sales too are much better than the last year. But don’t think that this round of better result will take care of all the problems that the company was facing. Its problems will take time to be solved, nonetheless the condition is not as bad as previously thought.
It is needless to say that the sort of turnaround that Nintendo has managed proves naysayers wrong who were busy writing its obituary. Reports suggest that Nintendo’s Wii U sales went up to 3.4 million units in the fiscal year ended March 31, up from the 2.7 million units the company sold in the last fiscal. On the other hand the company’s software sales hit 24 million units, up from nearly 19 million in the previous year.
The company has said in a statement that its Wii U’s success was largely due to last year’s launches of Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Nintendo said that its first-party titles helped bolster its software business and drove more people to buy Wii U hardware so they could play its titles.
