Turkey considers providing support to ongoing military operation in Yemen
ANKARA: Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Thursday that his country is considering the possibility of providing logistical support to the ongoing military operation in Yemen, known as “Decisive Storm”, led by Saudi Arabia and a number of Arab countries against Houthi rebels.
The Turkish support of the Saudi-led operation against Houthi targets in Yemen is a respond to the call made by Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, Erdogan said in an interview with French network FRANCE 24.
Meanwhile, the Turkish President explained that the US-led international coalition air strikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are “insufficient” to destroy the terrorist group, adding that a ground intervention will be necessary to overcome ISIL.
He ruled out any relation between ISIL and the real religion of Islam, confirming that ISIL is not a state, but a terrorist organization instead.
