Triple talaq, polygamy issue: Barelwi, Deobandi clerics unite
New Delhi: In an amazing turnaround of sorts Deobandi and Barelawi ulama have come together to challenge the Indian government and the Supreme Court on the issue of triple talaq and polygamy. The two sects who are vehemently opposed to each other on many issues have started working on a joint strategy to fight against the attempts to interfere in the Muslim personal law in the country.
While All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPB) has filed its response against the petitions regarding triple talaq in one sitting and polygamy, saying that no interference can be made when it comes to the Shariah laws.
Now the Muslim Personal Law Board has got solid support from not just Darul Uloom, the biggest Islamic seminary in India based in Deoband but the top Barelwi clerics based in Bareilly as well.
Talking about the seriousness of the issue, the vice chancellor of Darul Uloom, Deoband Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani said that Darul Uloom stands with the AIMPB in this regard. He said that it was purely a religious issue and it must be taken seriously.
While talking in detail on the issue the renowned Islamic scholar said, “There is a lobby that is bent upon vitiating communal atmosphere in the country by creating undue controversy over the triple talaq. This lobby wants to impose uniform civil code by hook or crook. It is of paramount importance to respond to such sections very forcefully in the court”.
