Terminator-inspired 3D printer showcased at TED
This is looking like something directly out of a Hollywood movie. Researchers have come out with a very impressive terminator-inspired 3D printer.
Researchers say that this 3D printer actually grows objects from liquid. They seem to have got inspiration for the latest 3D printer from none other than the movie ‘Terminator’. This movie seems to have inspired the scientists to come out with this revolution in 3D printing.
A sci-fi film, The Terminator is a 1984 American science fiction/horror action film directed by James Cameron, written by Cameron and the film’s producer Gale Anne Hurd, and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, and Linda Hamilton. The film and its other versions went on to become massive hits in eighties and nineties.
The latest miracle printer has been showcased to the world during the TED conference on Tuesday. One of the respected names in the industry, Joseph DeSimone, showcased the 3D printer that let creations rise from pools of molten liquid in much the way the dreaded T-1000 robot from the second ‘Terminator’ film. He very humbly accepted before a cheering crowd that they were inspired by Terminator movie.
“We were inspired by the ‘Terminator 2’ scene for the T-1000â€, said Joseph DeSimone. DeSimone and his fellow scientists working on the project came out with a new technology they call Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP). This technology actually harnesses powers of light and oxygen in a printer that brings designed objects quickly into existence from small reservoirs of elastic material with sophisticated properties.
DeSimone while talking about the project during the TED conference said, “We have a reservoir that holds the puddle like the T-1000†and added that it was in fact “a game changerâ€.
