Syrian Pres., Iraq FM discuss developments in their countries
AMMAN: President Bashar Al-Assad of Syria discussed with visiting Iraq’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari latest situation developments in their countries, official media reported Tuesday.
The Syrian-Iraqi discussions also included cooperation ties between the two countries, terrorism in both countries and the whole world, in addition to importance of continued coordination in facing and eliminating terrorism, Syrian Presidential statement said, according to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
President Al-Assad lauded success made by the Iraqi and Syrian people and armed forces against the terrorist organizations that contributed to curbing the expansion of terrorism, noting that further consultation and coordination between Baghdad and Damascus will give a boost to these achievements.
Syria has always had honorable stands towards the Iraqi people, Al-Jaafari said, confirming his country’s stand by the Syrian people, as well as support of their steadfastness.
Syria will be back stronger than ever when it exits its crisis, the Iraqi Minister affirmed, pointing out prospects of strategic relations between the two countries that are to develop in all areas.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Foreign Minister met with his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem, during which they discussed the situation in the region and recent terrorist threats to their countries.
