Can Surface Pro be a success? With the release date is coming near, tech market is quite concerned about the new Microsoft tablet/Ultrabook. At least a few analysts think that the Surface Pro might face the same fate of its Windows RT sibling, the Surface RT. Microsoft is really anxious about the developments. The company coined up the Surface tablets with much hope that it could raise critical threat to Android and Apple iPad.

Surface Pro is Microsoft’s full version Windows 8-based tablet PC. It is set for official release on Feb. 9. The tablet has been long-awaited by tech analysts. It is now coming to market months after the release of Surface RT. But, following the tepid response toward the Surface RT, analysts are anxious that the Surface Pro would also have the same destiny. At the same time, people are hopeful that Surface Pro would have many changes from Surface RT in design and look.

Reason for Surface RT’s Slow Sales
Of course, there are some reasons for the slow sales of Surface RT. If the device failed to attract fewer customers as against the expectation of the firm, it was mainly because of its cut-down operating system. Windows RT is a trimmed-down version of Windows 8. It doesn’t support all apps that Windows 8 originally do. Many people won’t like a restricted version of something especially when its full version is there or about to come in.

Windows RT, according to Forbes is “a cut-down version of Windows 8 suitable for ARM-based devices, and is only compatible with applications that are designed for the Windows RT operating system variant and are available from Microsoft’s own app store.” Yes, it is another negative point of the software. You need to find the apps for Windows RT based devices only from Windows Store, which is known for the lack of enough apps and games.

Scope of Windows 8 & Surface Pro
It is here we need to talk about the possibilities of Windows 8. It is a full version PC operating system. It is the same software that runs desktops, laptops, notebooks and servers. Surface Pro is developed by mounting a 3rd gen Intel Core processor, 4GB RAM and up to 128GB SSD storage. It means Surface Pro is more an Ultrabook than a tablet PC. But, in size and design, both the Pro and RT share almost the same features. The device supports full-fledged versions of Microsoft programs and app like MS Office and more.

So, in simple words, we can state that Surface Pro may do well. It can more be a replacement for small Ultrabooks like MacBook Air and others. Along with it, the device may also replace larger tablets like iPad, Google Nexus 10 and more. That is, Surface Pro can be a tablet and Ultrabook at a time. As far as its specs are concerned, Surface Pro also has a smaller price. It is set to come for around $900 sans Touch Cover, though. It is the thing that turns the slate to an Ultrabook with a physical keyboard and it is priced at $120, in addition.

Why Anxiety of over Surface Pro?
First of all, there is a growing notion Windows is not that good for slates. Android and iOS are more suitable for tablet PCs. Of course, Android tablets and iPad have made huge penetration to market. As a tablet, people may better go for an Android or iOS-based one. Windows is mainly fit for desktops and notebooks only.

As well, there is a reverse popularity against Windows 8. The software’s innovative features like Metro style UI and lack of start button have attracted more grumble, than appreciation. People are not that much adorned with the OS. Many Windows users still love the old-fashioned look of the software and they also wish to downgrade. It might also work out as another possible factor behind Surface Pro’s performance.
