Microsoft’s Surface Pro has been sold out in most stories. Meanwhile reviews are full of praise for Pro, but its battery life is an issue

Microsoft’s just introduced Surface Pro tablet has been sold out in the market within hours of its launch. There are two interpretations of the selling out of the device. There are people who say that the device was sold out as there were very few devices out in the stores to be bought and the other suggested that the demand is very high so the Microsoft Stores ran out of it.

But whatever the interpretation of the tablet being out of stock immediately after it launch, there is one fact that everyone should accept. And it is fact that people were waiting for its arrival in stores and though there were no long queues outside Microsoft Stores, as used to be the case with Apple iPhone and iPad –the lines have started shrinking in recent times –there were enough people who were desirous to buy it and many couldn’t buy it as the stocks ended pretty soon. Though the queues this time were smaller than what we witnessed at the time of Surface RT tablet launch, nonetheless the people were really interested in going for the device they had come to see and were genuinely interested in it.

Redmond based software major’s second tablet in just about three months looks like a tablet and works like one too but the machine has the soul of a PC. The device is based on Intel chip processors and has two fans integrated into the hardware. It can manage to run heavy duty PC software like iTunes, Photoshop and others. The tablet has a bright 1080p screen but projects a better resolution picture of 2550×1440, when connected to an external display such as a TV. The tablet supports all the peripherals supported by a normal PC such as external drives, flash drives, keyboard, mouse and others.

You can use the Surface Pro as ultrabook due to its higher specs and also with its accessories. The tablet-PC comes with a special keyboard cover, designed exclusively for Surface Pro by Microsoft. The Touch Cover serves the dual purpose of a cover as well as of a keyboard. The keyboard has a keyboard layout sketched on to the cover and works like an actual keyboard hardware. There’s also another variant called Type Cover which has actual keys and a trackpad also. The Surface Pro tablet has been priced at $900 for the 64 GB model, and the 128 GB variant will retail for $1200. But the question is whether such a device may manage to do well commercially in a highly competitive market where the same amount can fetch a nice lightweight laptop with much more memory capacity. The Surface Pro has the mobility aspect going for it, which works in portrait mode also.

The demand for the Surface Pro tablet was very high is evident from the fact that 128GB version was sold out immediately after the launch. Right now 128 GB model of the Surface Pro is no longer listed as in stock on Microsoft’s online store. Reports suggest that the highest version is not available on Best Buy and Staples either. On the other hand cheaper version that comes with 64 GB is still available on Microsoft’s website though in some stores people were told to contact again as it had also become out of stock. But there are many people who complain that retailers like Best Buy and Staples only had a few Surface Pros in stock and ran out of it within no time. But true picture about the demand for Surface Pro will become clear in the next few weeks when stores are stocked and regular supplies resume. But right now Microsoft seems to have got everything right after the disappointing start of Surface RT.
