Super blood moon 2015 and total lunar eclipse September: One moon, many shades keep the world on toes
The whole world seems to be talking about blood red, supermoon and total lunar eclipse. These are two features that actually got together on a single day, creating a spectacle that is rarely available to sky enthusiasts.
The spectacle was actually caused as a lunar eclipse coincided with supermoon. This happened last time when most of us wouldn’t have been around or were too young.
And even if we were around, the information about the celestial events were actually not that freely available. Now internet and live streaming have made things all the more exciting for sky lovers who are able to enjoy some occasions even when it is taking place that is far away from their places of residence.
NASA scientists have said that the two happened simultaneously the last time in the year 1982. Astronomers claim that the next such event will not happen before the year 2033.
The spectacle was live streamed on Slooh.com and videos are freely available on internet and Youtube. NASA in a report says that the moon appeared at least as much as 14 percent bigger and at least 30 percent brighter than usual by being as near as possible to Earth – a mere 226,000 miles away. NASA further says that the sunlight scattered by the Earth’s atmosphere as the planet moves directly between the sun and the moon turned the moon an eerie blood-red color.
The latest lunar eclipse actually lasted for a short time, merely 1 hour and 11 minutes. Thankfully given the good weather and a clear sky it was visible to sky fans almost across the USA. Besides North America people were able to watch it in Europe, Africa, and parts of West Asia and the eastern Pacific, besides of course in South America.
