Suge Knight makes ‘Straight Outta Compton’ box office hit, but his family denounces his portrayalÂ
Marion “Suge†Knight may be spending his time in jail. But it is no reason to keep him out of the media trial and the spotlight.
The latest reason for him being under spotlight once again is due to N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton. Though his character is not the center of the biopic, nonetheless it seems to have attracted far more attention than thought earlier by filmmakers and others.
There is no denying the fact that the latest spotlight is not going down well with his family. But his family doesn’t take this spotlight so kindly. In a Facebook post his family says, “The family of Suge Knight ask that you keep Suge in your prayers and to stray away from the negativity portrayed by the media,” the statement reads. “Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood, he’s human. He’s done a lot of things for the community and the culture as a whole so we ask that you respect that.â€
There is no denying the fact that the massive 6-foot-4-inch (1.9m) former college football player had a mystique even before filming started, and the murder case filed against him over a fatal parking lot confrontation earlier this year as well as a related civil case have only increased attention on the Death Row Records co-founder.
Suge Knight remains in jail. He has pleaded not guilty and continues to be in jailed on $10 million bail while awaiting trial on charges filed after he ran over two men outside a Compton burger stand in late January. The case and Straight Outta Compton, which opened in the US on Friday, have become intertwined, in large part because the film’s technical adviser, Cle “Bone†Sloan, attacked Knight moments before the ex-mogul ran him over with his pickup truck. During Knight’s getaway, he struck and killed Terry Carter, a Compton businessman who was trying to negotiate peace between Knight and rapper-producer Dr Dre, according to his family’s attorney.
