Following its release of an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) build for its flagship smartphone the Xperia Z, Sony now looks ahead to add the pure vanilla flavor to its Xperia Z tablet also. It means that the device will bring you a stock Android 4.2 experience. The company has taken a move to roll out (AOSP) build of Android to its Xperia phones. As part of such a move, it has released the AOSP for Xperia Z. Now it is guessed that Sony is working on a stock Android variant for its upcoming 10.1-inch tablet.

As part of Sony AOSP project, Android engineers took the Xperia S as a guinea pig for testing its feasibility. Well, it was a success and “a good target.” The S was a “powerful current GSM device, with an unlock-able bootloader, from a manufacturer that has always been very friendly to AOSP,” Google engineers said after testing possibilities of stock Android on Sony’s Xperia line, which will ditch its Timescape UI for Android stock.

As a result, Google tendered the reins of the AOSP project to Sony, one of the top developers of Android smartphones. Now many customers will get stock Android variant of Xperia phones. The Xperia Z and ZL are about to get announced with the stock Android version. It is when the report that the upcoming Xperia Z tablet is also to run the stock version of Android. It is great to know that a tablet is to run stock Android.

Google has just announced a stock Android version of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 flagship. The device called the Galaxy S4 Nexus is likely to be one of the best stock Android phones ever. Now we are about to get a stock OS version of the Xperia Z as well as a new Xperia Z tablet, which is announced by Sony in February 2013. It may come as a great challenger to Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and Google Nexus 10.

Sony Xperia Z Tablet Specs
The Xperia Z is coming up with a bunch of quality and worthy specs. It is to feature a 10.1-inch LED-backlit LCD display with a nice resolution of 1200 x 1920 pixels at 224-ppi. The multitouch touchscreen is enriched with a shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass. Sony’s pioneering Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology also adds to the muscle of the display.

Under the cover, the Xperia Z tablet is to tout a 1.5GHz quad core Krait CPU that encases a high performance Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 chip. Further, 2GB of RAM, Adreno 320 GPU and 16GB internal memory will make it do amazingly well when it comes to system performance. A great 8.1MP rear camera with autofocus geo-tagging, HDR and 1080p HDR with video recording and a 2.2MP front camera are other key highlights.

All key connectivity options will also be present on the device that is to come in both cellular and Wi-Fi versions. The cellular connectivity options go GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA and 4G LTE. Other regular connectivity options include Wi-Fi, dual band, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, NFC, Infrared port and micro USB ports. As a whole, the Xperia Z tablet is a nice tablet with all major features and capabilities onboard.

Stock Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will most likely be the operating system in the device. Sony hasn’t, however, confirmed the news. With a stock Android, indeed it might be a rare non-Nexus tablet on shelves to run the pure Android. Users can start enjoying the original Android experience on big screens. As of now, lots of users wait for such a gadget, which gives them the unadulterated version of Android, a breathtaking mobile operating system from Google.
