Finally after very long wait Sony Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual have got Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update
Sony’s popular entry-level Android phone the Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. In contrast with its former announcement, Sony has decided to fetch the update to the device. Many customers in India have already reported that they have received the update, which comes over Sony PC companion, not Over-The-Air (OTA) mode. It seems that Sony has brought the firmware update to the handset following its huge success in many emerging markets like India.
Earlier, Sony stated that it wouldn’t update a line of its entry level Android phones. Apart from Tipo and Tipo Dual, the Miro, Xperia U and some other models were said not to get Jelly Bean. Now, Sony executives have told various sources that it has decided to take the update at least to Tipo and Tipo Dual. Some other cheaper models, which were earlier excluded from the update list, would also likely to get the Jelly Bean.
“Sony Xperia Tipo dual has surpassed our sales expectation and is a big hit for us, we want to make it even better with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in about a month’s time,” The Mobile Indian has quoted as a Sony executive saying. So, it means that Sony has advanced the Jelly Bean update for the Tipo since it has been sold in huge numbers. Of course, customers might be pressing the company to update the Tipo as well along with its midrange and high-end models.
Sony Xperia Tipo & Tipo Dual
This is the cheapest Android phone from Sony. The Japan firm has taken the device to market as a low-price model with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. All other cheap Android phones like LG Optimus L3, Samsung Galaxy Y and HTC Explorer have Android 2.3 Gingerbread and they can’t be upgraded to any future models. But, the Tipo and its dual SIM variant, though priced at sub-$200 are up with the latest ICS update and now they are upgradeable to the Jelly Bean also.
The Tipo sports a 3.2-inch TFT display with HVGA resolution of 320x480p and it is powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm Scorpion processor, which is backed by 512MB of RAM. The device offers 2.5GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD. A 1500mAh battery powers the handset that has a 3.2MP rear camera and no front camera for chatting. It comes in a variety of colors including white, blue and more. In Indian market, you can buy Tipo and Tipo Dual respectively for around Rs. 9000 and Rs. 10000.

How to Update
Sony is distributing the Jelly Bean update not over the air. It is available only through its PC suite. You are required to connect the device with the PC using data cable for the update. Well, if the update is available in your region, you can find the notification right on PC companion. It will take around thirty minutes to get the setup file downloaded to your device.
