Sony Xperia M4 Aqua launched during Mobile World Congress 2015
This is not a flagship handset. Nonetheless from its specifications it looks just one of the flagships. The Japanese tech giant seems to be preparing itself to take on Chinese smartphone makers who seem to have done great damage to top of the line Android smartphone makers’ handsets.
And the sufferers have been the likes of Sony, HTC and of course Samsung. Now with value for money handsets like Sony M4 Aqua the company seems to be readying itself for taking on the likes of China’s Xiaomi, OnePlus and of course Oppo. These companies, particularly Xiaomi seem to be having a field day due to their impressive specifications, features and down to earth pricing policy.
But if you seem Sony’s M4 Aqua you will feel that it is one of the company’s flagship handsets. The Xperia M4 Aqua comes with a very good looking 5-incher display and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. It is amazing that this very affordable handset with price tag of around $300 comes with very similar looks like Z3.
But the new handset is complete plastic, unlike Sony’s Z3 that is very well made. But despite being plastic the M4 Aqua recreates the Z3’s OmniBalance design in plastic and does it well. The new phone is noticeably lighter, weighing in at 136g, but doesn’t compromise on much.
Though the handset’s specifications are not like flagship, but they are very good. It comes with Snapdragon 615 processor, LTE, 2GB of RAM, and hold your breath a battery life that lasts up to two days. The Sony M4 Aqua comes with 2,400mAh battery.
But this is not all. The handset is water-proof. You can put it under 1.5 meter of water for around 30 minutes and it will not be damaged. Besides it comes with very impressive IPS panel, protected by tempered glass on the front.
When it comes to camera, the M4 Aqua comes with a very good 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera on the back and a 5-megapixel selfie snapper on the front. On the other hand the latest M4 Aqua even improves on Sony’s best phones to date by removing the need to have a cap on its USB port. So long as you dry out the phone completely before trying to plug it into anything, the USB port will be just fine taking a dive into the pool with you.
