Serena Williams vs Venus Williams US Open tennis 2015 not to be sisterly fight: schedule, time, TV channel and how to watch live online
Serena Williams is the best tennis player at the moment. No one doubts it in the tennis world right now. The winner of 21 Grand Slams in her career, she is among the most successful female tennis player around.
After already winning three grand slams this year, she seemed to be on course to win her fourth grand slam of the year, to win all in a calendar year, becoming only fourth player to do so and first since Steffi Graf did so in the year 1988.
But while things were looking easy for her and she was winning without much of a problem till now, all of a sudden there seems to be a stumbling block. And the most amazing part is the fact that the stumbling block is none other her own elder sister Venus Williams who has won seven grand slams. While she is no longer in the top five or top ten players in the tournament, the fact that she has sailed into quarter finals so easily seems to suggest that she has worked hard recently.
Serena Williams has admitted that Venus is the only player who she fears. The fact that the two are meeting for the 27th time in their long career seems to have increased people’s interest in the US Open.
Though they have fought each other in recent months too, but it is the first all-Williams clash in New York since they met at the same stage in 2008, when Serena edged two tie-breaks en route to winning the title, and their 14th in grand slams overall.
Many people have been mesmerized by the way Venus is playing. Venus’ demolition of Kontaveit continued the 35-year-old’s superb form in New York, which also saw her knock out rising star Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in round three. This clearly has her little sister worried.
Serena says, “For me I’m playing the best player in the tournament, and that’s never easy…She’s beaten me so many times. I’ve taken a lot of losses off of her – more than anybodyâ€.
The reigning champ says that her elder sister knows everything about her game and it is what makes her all the more dangerous. “She’s a player that knows how to win, knows how to beat me, and knows my weaknesses better than anyone…It’s not very easy. Like I said, for me, she’s the only player in the draw I don’t want to play – not only because she’s my sister but because for me she’s the best player.â€
On the other hand Serena doesn’t see herself as a spoiler. “I don’t think anyone wants to be a spoiler…I think people love to see history being made…No one is out to be a spoiler, but at the same time, you’re focused on winning your match even though the circumstances are really much different than you (would want).â€
But Serena seems to be prepared for the fight and is actually enjoying it. “I think it’s more fun than it used to be…We really relish the opportunity. We’re both happy to still be involved in getting so far….And it’s still super intense. She’s doing well and she wants to win this. So do I. It’s not easy…I think it’s been an amazing rivalry. I think it’s meant a lot. We’ve done a lot for the sport. Hopefully it can continue as long as we playâ€, says Serena.
