Samsung Galaxy S4 specs and release date are being rumoured by different blogs. It is still not a year since the Samsung launched the Galaxy S 3, the next version of its best selling Galaxy S 2. While the GS2 was hailed as a great device, the GS3 received a lukewarm response from the tech press when it launched, with many calling it a less than worthy successor to the S2. Yet, the GS3 went on to sell by truckloads, even beating the iPhone for the Q3 of this year as the best selling smartphone.

Now, it is time to bring out a successor to the GS3, and guess which way Samsung is going. The GS3 featured a 4.8 inch 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.8 inches (~306 ppi pixel density) display, and a quad core processor. This was a bump up from the 4.3 inch 480 x 800 pixels, (~217 ppi pixel density) screen, and dual core A9 processor of the GS2. The GS4 will supposedly feature a quad core A15 processor, a massive 4.99 full HD display (1920 x 1080) with a pixel density of more than 441ppi.

As one can see, with each generation Samsung has bumped up the resolution and size of the display, while at the same time bumping up the processor to keep all those pixels flowing across the screen smoothly.

The nearly 5 inch display however will border on the phablet category, which is currently occupied triumphantly occupied by the Galaxy Note 2 with its 5.5 inch display. It remains to be seen as to how Samsung will manage to pack the bigger display while still keeping it differentiated from the Note 2. Perhaps it will be able to get the bigger display without increasing the dimensions, as it managed to do with the Note 2, in which it went from 5.3 inch display to the 5.5 inch, without increasing the size noticeably.

This time too, there are other competitors in the market with similar screen resolution. The HTC DNA, which should hit the market soon, has a full HD display already. It is almost certain that the new device will be thinner and lighter to boot. After all it needs to compete with the iPhone 5’s super thin nearly weightless 112gms weight.

Another feature that the GS4 will reportedly have is a 13MP camera. For a long time 8MP cameras have been standard for the topline phones. But other competitors are already moving to the higher resolution cameras. Asus for example, is already packing a 13MP camera in its PadFone. It only makes sense that Samsung, used to competing on specs, will at least have a camera of the same resolution.

Rumours have it that Samsung has originally wanted to release the 13MP shooter with the GS3 itself, but decided to stick with 8MP for the sake of efficiency. A 13MP camera will almost certainly mean that the RAM would go up to 2GB. The A15 based SoC inside the phone should be the same as the one found on the Nexus 10, clocked to 1.7Ghz.

The release date for the Samsung GS4 is not available, but it should launch sometime in the first half of 2013.

You got the GS2 screen size wrong. The GS2 screen size isn’t a 4.3 inch screen, it is a 4.5 inch screen. The Galaxy S had the 4.3 inch screen. Also I think they are going to keep the GS4 at or very close to 4.8 inch screen. If they take more of the bezel away they might go to 4.9 but I think they will keep the 4.8 but go 1080p. Anything at or above 5.0 inch screen would be tooo close to the Galaxy Note 2. I sure hope they will be able to mass produce the Flexible OLED (unbreakable) screen soon so it could come on the GS4 or the GN3. Not so the phone could possibly flex but so you never have to worry about your screen breaking. I’m loving my Galaxy Note 2.

Oh and I forgot, the reason the Galaxy Note 2 didn’t get the 13 mega pixel camera is because Sony couldn’t meet the demands for it. Sony already made deals with other companies for the 13 mega pixel camera lens. That’s why Sony couldn’t make Samsungs demands. So Samsung had to settle for the 8 mega pixel camera again for the GN2.
