Sabra hummus recall: Second recall in a week on listeria fearsÂ
Sabra is facing one of the toughest days now. It has set to recall large number of hummus cases from the market. Reports suggest that top selling brand in the United States is reportedly recalling more than 30,000 cases of hummus due to listeria fears.
Latest reports suggest that its samples have tested positive for listeria though there have not been any known cases of people being affected by it.
One of the top hummus making companies in the US, Sabra Dipping Co., claims to have voluntarily recalled as many as 30,000 cases of hummus or about 360,000 containers nationwide from stores. The company said that it removed the products when it emerged that a sample tested positive for the very deadly bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.
A CDC report while talking about listeria says, “Listeriosis, a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, is an important public health problem in the United States. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, rarely, persons without these risk factors can also be affected. The risk may be reduced by recommendations for safe food preparation, consumption, and storageâ€.
Reports suggest that a random hummus sample collected by a government agency at a retail location in Michigan on March 30 was behind the recall. This is the second recall related to Listeria concerns this week. Earlier Blue Bell Creameries expanded a recall of its products due to listeria fears.
