When Ronda Rousey entered the octagon against Holly Holm in Melbourne, Australia people thought that they will see the same old story here again. Ronda Rousey tend to win every fight without much of an effort. People said she is a born winner and that there was no one in the world –of course among female MMA fighters –who could beat her.

The best part of all her past wins was the fact that she won every fight within seconds. Rarely it took more than a minute for the impressive fighter to pass win a match. The fights entered second round very rarely.

People who had obviously come out expecting the same, were shocked when the fight progressed into second minute. They were also unable to fathom as to how Holly Holm was able to avoid the powerful shots that Rousey was hurling at her opponent.

UfcWhile it was shocking for her diehard fans, the people who actually love a good fight started enjoying the one that looked more balanced. And soon they had a feeling deep inside their hearts that they may be witnessing an upset here in Melbourne.

With this impressive win that came in just six minutes, Holm offered a wakeup call to the MMA world and a new legion of UFC watchers who had been drawn to cagefighting by Rousey’s exploding stardom over the last couple of years. Holm, nicknamed “The Preacher’s Daughter” put together a perfect performance. From start to finish, the fight was hers, who either cast aside the charged bull of a champion or stuck her with knives in the neck when the opportunity presented itself. And it did often.

There is a basic difference between Holm and Rousey’s previous opponents. In Rousey’s previous six title defenses, she faced fighters who were as aggressive as her and wanted to be deep into the fight exposing their defenses against a good fighter like Rousey. On Saturday it was very different. Holm didn’t meet Rousey’s charge head on yet she hardly shied away from the action. She initiated much of it. And made the most of it.
