Holly Holm beats Ronda Rousey: watch UFC 193 full fight and knockout video highlights
No one thought that the fight will be so unpredictable. The woman who had been ridiculed for fighting the champion of the champions was never thought to be able to give a fight, let alone a decent fight all these months since the fight was announced.
Ronda Rousey has been a great fighter, a champion of the champions and a consummate finisher of the fight. Most often the fights will end within less than a minute and so great has been her exploits in the women MMA that she has been compared to the best of the best in the men’s UFC.
When the fight was announced it was thought that Ronda Rousey will emerge victorious before the end of the first round itself. Her last fight, despite tall claims of the opponents had taken just half a minute to end and people thought the latest fight was not going to be an exception.
Nonetheless when the fight ended in KO in the second round itself it was not Holly Holm who was taken to hospital to check for internal injuries. Instead it was Ronda Rousey who was bleeding and needed medical attention.
Holm was doing more like Floyd Mayweather Jr, the iconic boxer who recently retired from pro boxing after remaining unbeaten throughout his long career. The more she flitted out of Rousey’s reach, the more the champion became frustrated, and the more she tried to unleashed ferocious swings that quickly became ragged. After Holm escaped from an attempt by Rousey to lock on her signature armbar at the midway point of the first round, you sensed that she might survive for a good length of time.
There were some signs of impending win for Holm when she ducked under a looping hook, the momentum of which sent Rousey flying face-first into the cage, you sensed she could win. Then there was no turning back for the new champ.
When the first round ended, Holm seems to have escaped any major injury. On the other hand Rousey was bleeding. But no one thought that the end will come so fast and so unexpectedly. Holm came out with a crushing kick with her left to the side of Rousey’s head and neck. There is no denying the fact that it was so well executed and so well timed that it threw Rousy on the canvass writhing in pain. With the loss we have a new champ in Holly Holm.
