NVO News Desk,

LAKEWOOD, Colo– The driver of a semi that was involved in the deadly 28 vehicles crash has been arrested. He has been identified as 23-year old Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos. The Green Card holder from Cuba was reportedly behind the 28 vehicles crash on I-70 near Denver Park West Thursday afternoon. According to Lakewood police, the man faces multiple charges of vehicular homicide related to the deadly accident.

Till now authorities have confirmed four deaths in the senseless incident. An official with the Lakewood Police Department said that authorities were “still trying to identify what some of the cars even are”.

Authorities have confirmed that the man who reportedly thought that people ahead of him in the cars were Muslims, was also hurt in the crash on Thursday afternoon, but not seriously. According to official sources as many as ten people were rushed to Saint Anthony hospital.

Agent Ty Countryman with Lakewood Police was quoted by the CBS as saying, “I can’t go into the facts, it’s still evidence we’re building. We feel at this time we have enough probable cause to charge vehicular homicide”.

Authorities have said that Aguilera-Mederos is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities have said that the crash was caused by Aguilera-Mederos’ out-of-control semi, which was carrying lumber. Countryman said, “That number (of involved vehicles) is significantly higher than what we had last night…A lot of that is because once the debris of the semis and cars under semis — once we could get in and really start doing a car count, that’s why that number really went up.”

Following the incident the affected vehicles are still being moved away from scene and highway remains closed. Colorado Department of Transportation chief engineer Josh Laipply was quoted by the CBS Denver that officials will have to assess whether the pavement and the nearby bridge are structurally sound. Laipply said the fire from the crash may have reached 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Authorities are of the opinion that Aguilera-Mederos Intentionally Caused the Crash. A KDVR report said that according to authorities Aguilera-Mederos was not drunk or Intoxicated at the time of incident.
