Chandigarh: The PunjabÂ Governor and Administrator, UnionÂ Territory, Chandigarh, Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues, PVSM, VSM, while honoring the NCC cadets andÂ officers from Punjab & UT who took part in Republic Day Parade andÂ
PM’s Rally – 2009 at New Delhi, advocated the need for creating an Alumni Association of NCC Cadets to periodically meet and share their perceptions with the focus on ensuringÂ linkage with the ideals of discipline, commitment and service to the Nation and practicing them during their lifetime. He called upon them to develop a culture of caring, compassion and commitment, to further reinforce their capacities andÂ capabilities to contribute more effectively to society and the Country.
General Rodrigues said that we have lost our roots and value systems and we must make serious and sustained efforts to recreate them, for the realization of the goals set by the stalwarts of our freedom struggle. He said that the existing system of education needs to be reoriented and reactivated, to develop the values of nationalism and patriotism, to prepare our children to contribute in a more vigorous way in nationÂ building activities. The NCC Cadets have the correct motivation and value based training and must come forward in every progressive endeavour, to give a stimulus to national life. We must develop the attitude of supporting the right cause andÂ raise our voices if something is happening wrong in our social system.
Offering an opportunity to the NCC Cadets to utilize the infrastructure support in shooting and other adventurous games, General Rodrigues said that PunjabÂ has always remained in the forefront and we must maintain that status by achieving excellence in all the NCC activities at national level.
He said that the Chandigarh Administration will give full support in these Endeavour’s and the need is to develop a sense of commitment and confidence among our children. General Rodrigues presented mementos to the cadets and theÂ officers of NCC.
Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal, Finance Minister , PunjabÂ , while speaking on the occasion strongly pleaded for motivating the youth from PunjabÂ to join armed forces to serve the Country. He assured all financial support to the NCC organization for carrying out their goals and activities. While, highlighting the future perspective planning of the Directorate Deputy Director General, Brig. Rajendra Singh,Â SM laid special emphasis on shooting and adventure activities.
Cadets of the region displayed tremendous keenness in adventure activities like trekking and mountaineering expeditions to MT Thaelu and Bhagirathi II. Many cadets excelled at National level in shooting, Micro light flying, horseÂ riding and show jumping, he added.
During his welcome speech, Colonel KJ singh Group Commander of Punjab NCC Group said that the aim of NCC training is to channelise the abundant youth energy into constructive thinking by inculcating the sense of discipline, comradeship and confidence in them, which is considered the third largest disciplined forces. He informed that during the year 21142 cadets attended training camps, 13991 cadetsÂ successfully passed NCC proficiency certificates, participated in camps for blood donation, tree plantation, social services of pulse polio, AIDs awareness, Cancer Awareness, traffic control and anti dowry. 14 NCC cadets of the region were successfully selected as commissioned officers training in defense services.
Principal Secretary Education, Mr. K.B.S. Sidhu, Finance Secretary, UT, Mr. Sanjay Kumar and senior officers from Punjab and Chandigarh Administration attended the function.
