Republican convention 2016: Melania Trump speech marred by plagiarism allegations
Republican convention was expected to be on the front pages across the world. While it was, but what made bigger headlines was the fact that parts of Deonald Trump’s wife Melania Trump’s speech at the RNC 2016 were found to be heavily plagiarized.
There were at least two paragraphs in her speech that looked almost identical. And since her heavily accented speech, the plagiarized speech has been going viral on the internet and social media. Thousands of tweets have been in circulation as more and more details of the similarities were dug up by Twitterati and other social media users across the world.
As expected Melania Trump, a leading international model and entrepreneur took the stage on the very first day of the Republican National Convention. Her speech was received with standing ovation and thunderous applause.
Nonetheless merely shortly after the speech was over, the blonde found herself embroiled in a plagiarism controversy.
There are allegations that the presumptive Republican candidate’s wife seems to have heavily taken a 2008 speech by US First Lady Michelle Obama. Nonetheless Trump was all praise for his wife and talked at length as to how she had scripted a great speech on her own.
On the other hand a Trump campaign official suggested the similarity to Obama’s speech may have been the result of an error by her team of speech writers.
Meanwhile Trump’s Slovenian-born wife told NBC that she wrote the speech on her own. “I wrote it… with as little help as possible” said she.
A senior Trump official while talking about Melania’s speech said, “In writing her beautiful speech, Melania’s team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking”.
Melania’s speech: “My parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect”.
Michelle Obama’s speech eight years ago: “And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect.”
Melania’s speech: “And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow, because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
Michelle Obama’s speech eight years ago: “Because we want our children, and all children in this nation, to know that the only limit to the height of your achievement is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
