Ranveer Kapoor and Deepika Padukone latest film is doing exceptionally well. ‘Ram-leela’ box office collection heads northwards, collects ₹1 billion
This week three films were released: Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh starrer Ram-leela, Kareena Kapoor- starrer ‘Gori Tere Pyar Mein’ and Sunny Deol starrer ‘Singh Saab The Great’. While Ram leela fared the best , trailing far behind was Singh Saab, followed by a limping Gori at the far disdtance of box office collection.
The critical reviews of the films were matched by their box office collections., with Ram leela being hailed widely and Gori panned for its many flaws.
Ram leela is an action drama love story located in a fictional town of Gujarat. Sanjay Leela Bhansali did a wonderful job of indianising the tragic love story and filled the adaptation with sufficient colour, melodrama and sex appeal to win the Indian audience.
Sunny Deol outperformed his grown-old-hero image in this action hero flick and managed to gather some box office collection, though it pale drastically before Ram-Leela’s collections. The Kapoor girl could not do much with the film that was pockmarked with bad storyline, limited theme and bad direction.
Ram Leela managed a first week collection of about Rs 75 crore nett. In its opening weekend, the film earned over Rs 52 crore. Its opening day collection alone stood at Rs 16 crore. The second day, being a weekend, went up to 17.25 crore and on Sunday, the third day, it shot higher to rest at Rs 19.50 crore. The box office collections were released by Eros International.
‘Singh Saab The Great’ weekend collection was Rs. 18.5 crores and ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ managed Rs. 9.50 crores, reported trade website koimoi.com. This hints at more dismal collections by the end of its first week.
Deol’s action-hero film is directed by Gadar director Anil Sharma, but Gadar had collected over Rs. 16 crore at the ticket windows over the weekend, and that was years ago.
