Prof Ahmed attends National Symposium on Oral Cancer

Aligarh: Professor S S Ahmad, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University recently attended a National Symposium on Oral Cancer in Bangalore, which was organized by Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore.

In the symposium, Dr Ahmad actively participated in scientific deliberations and chaired a scientific session in which research paper presentations on ‘Epidemiology and Challenges of Prevention and Management of Oral Cancers’ by researchers, clinicians and scientists of national and international repute were done.

“During the symposium it was discussed that oral cancers and premalignant lesions have well-defined clinical diagnostic characteristics and are typically detected in advanced stages even when the oral cavity is accessible for visual examination,” said Prof Ahmad. He pointed out that 60 to 80 percent of the oral cancer patients are in this condition.

He lamented that an early detection of the disease will help improve the cure rate and reduce the cost and morbidity associated with treatment.

Prof K S Sabitha, Head, Department of Oral Oncology, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore presented a memento to Prof Ahmed in appreciation of his services during the programme.

Prof Ahmad, who is the current president of UP Chapter, Association of Oral and maxillofacial Surgeons of India is a recipient of many international scholarships and fellowships.
