One of the best known athletes among Paralympics players has been arrested for killing his model girlfriend in South Africa. The man who has hogged limelight for his dexterity in running faster than the sprinters who didn’t face any disability and who is commonly known as Blade Runner has been arrested.

Oscar Pistorious was today arrested for fatally shooting his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp who has long been his partner and has visited a number of countries along with him. Though the police officials have not clearly said anything as to whom they have arrested, but their description matches that of the Blade Runner. The local police spokeswoman Sarah Mcira said that a 26 year old man was arrested and charged with the murder of the 30 year old modle. also confirmed that a 26-year-old man, who they have not named, was in custody and charged with murder.

Reports allege that Oscar Pistorious had shot the model multiple times in different parts of her body including her head. Though there were no details of why he committed the crime.

Oscar is one of the best known differently-abled athletes. He is the T44 world record holder for the 200 and 400 metres events, and the joint T43 record holder for the 100 metres. He is so good in running that he has taken part in many competition for able-bodied sprinters. In 2007, Pistorius took part in such first competition but Flex-Foot Cheetah carbon fibre transtibial prostheses gave rise to claims that he had an unfair advantage over able-bodied runners. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) banned the use of such devices, but later the decision was reversed by a higher court.

In the meantime The Times reported Gauteng police spokeswoman as saying, “Paramedics declared the woman dead on the scene and police proceeded with their investigation. The woman sustained wounds to her head and the upper body”.

In the meantime fellow athletes are coming out in support of Oscar in absence of any clear reports in the case. Iwan Thomas in a tweet said, “I am in total shock to hear the news about athlete and friend Oscar, my thoughts are with him and all involved. That’s all I have to say”.
