â€˜Operation Meghdootâ€™ Commemorated
On 13 Apr 1984, â€˜OPERATION MEGHDOOTâ€™ was launched with an aim to wrest control of the strategic heights on the Saltoro Ridge, overlooking the Nubra Valley.
On completion of 31 years of success of the operation, the Siachen Brigade celebrated the event with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Siachen Base Camp War Memorial. Lt Gen Sanjay Kulkarni, Director General of Infantry was the Chief Guest of the Ceremony as he was the first to reach â€˜Bilafond Laâ€™ Pass on 13 Apr 1984.
After the Wreath Laying, Ex-Servicemen Rally was conducted where Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris and Next of Kin (NOKs) of Late Soldiers were felicitated, followed by cultural programme by local troupe and youth of the area. Soldiers of Glacier battalions also participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.
Lt Gen Sanjay Kulkarni addressed the soldiers and shared his experiences.
