Amazon has again slashed prices of Windows Phone 8 flagship phones, the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8X. After a price cut one month back, it is now for the second time the retailer has reduced prices of the Windows Phone 8 handsets. Does it mean that demand for WP 8 phones is shrinking? It is anyway sure that there is not a big craze from customers toward the WP phones. Well, they may have started to decline in sales, thus resulting in the continuous price cuts by Amazon and other carriers.

Nokia Lumia 920 and 820; New Prices
Amazon offers the premium Windows Phone 8 handset from Nokia for $40 with two-year contract from AT&T. The older price was $60 and so there is a change of $20. You can grab both black and white versions of Lumia 920. It is when Amazon sells the midrange WP 8 handset the 820 for free for a two-year data contract.

HTC Windows Phone 8X; New Prices
The retailer offers Windows Phone 8X’s 8GB yellow version for free. But, for some undisclosed reason, the device’s 8GB blue version comes for $40 on a two-year data contract from AT&T. If you want the 16GB model, you need to pay $50 for a two-year contract with AT&T and Verizon. The low-end Windows Phone 8S hasn’t been available in the U.S. market.

Windows Phone 8 Handsets – Market Performance
The entire Windows-based handsets including Windows RT tablets seem to have failed to entice more customers. The devices have reportedly lost sheen in global mobile and tablet markets due to many important factors. Lots of customers have lifted big complaints against the platform. One major gripe is the bad user interface of the software. Of course, Windows and its mobile firmware have an innovative Metro-style tile-based UI. But, it appears not as much capable to beat the simple UIs of Android and iOS.

Of course, less customization is another deficiency of the platform. It is of no surprise that Microsoft doesn’t allow customers to personalize the software. The company is much adamant in letting people modify and customize software and apps. But, those who have enjoyed the level of customization with Android won’t be much interested with the software. Multitasking is a hell with Windows Phone 8, many customers complain. You are largely restricted and controlled while using the software in a mobile phone. The software doesn’t allow jailbreaks and it is closed.

Marketplace for apps is also criticized for poor performance and the lack of enough apps. App developers have shown less interest to develop nice apps for the platform. To top it all, big price of contract free handsets is also a negative mark. All the major Windows Phone 8 handsets like Lumia 920 and HTC 8X come for big prices if you choose SIM free models.

Conclusion
Nokia’s Lumia 920 and HTC’s WP 8X are two major handsets with the WP 8 now. The other product is from Samsung. Called the ATIV S, which was first demoed as a Windows Phone 8 handset, it has not yet widely landed in market. Some markets have reportedly received the device, however. Anyway, Lumia 920 and HTC WP 8X are two major products that you can buy for slashed prices from Amazon now.

HTC’s midrange Windows Phone 8S is not meant for the U.S. The cheaper handset has just appeared in the U.K. market. Many retailers and carriers sell the handset in the U.K. Lots of other tech makers including ZTE and Huawei are reportedly working on quality handsets for Windows Phone 8. Possibly, they may come to the market sometime early next year.
