NHL trade rumors 2016: Chicago Blackhawks’ Ryan Garbutt going somewhere else now

NHL trade rumors are going to become more shrill in the days to come. The trade deadline is still more than a month away and as the February 29 NHL trade deadline nears, the excitement is going to go up.

In the meantime there are reports that Anaheim Ducks have actually acquired Ryan Garbutt from the Chicago Blackhawks.

There is no denying the fact that Ryan Garbutt had performed exceptionally well during his time with the Chicago Blackhawks. On July 1, 2011, Garbutt’s prominent rise through the professional ranks continued when he was signed to his first NHL contract on a one-year two-way contract by the Dallas Stars as a free agent. In the 2011–12 season, Garbutt was recalled by Dallas from AHL affiliate, Texas and scored his first NHL goal on February 21, 2012, against Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.

Chicago BlackhawksTwo years ago he made headlines across the world when on January 29, 2014, Garbutt signed a three-year contract extension with the Stars worth $5.4 million. It was On July 10, 2015, when Garbutt was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks.

It must be kept in mind that he’d made a bigger offensive impact over the previous two seasons in Dallas, tallying 25 goals and 32 assists across 142 contests. The Ducks will hope he’s able to rediscover at least some of that scoring touch. They struggled mightily to find the net during the first half of the campaign and currently rank at the bottom of the league in goals per game (1.98).

Another important update as far as NHL trade is concerned is the fact that Chicago Blackhawks has got a younger asset in Sekac, 23, who’s still trying to find his way in the NHL. He had just three points in 22 games for Anaheim this season. His shooting percentage (3.4 percent) does suggest he should be in line for a little more “puck luck” over time, though.

According to analysts it’s a trade that makes sense for both sides, especially with both players needing a spark after failing to make their presence felt so far this season. Stay tuned for more updates in this regard.
