New iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus sale on weekend to cross 13 million units

SAN FRANCISCO/SYDNEY: The newly launched smartphones from Cupertino based Apple namely iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus have finally been launched in the market and have become available in stores not just in the US, but elsewhere too. There is no denying the fact that the response has been more than exciting for Apple and its franchisees in these parts of the world.

Long queues were witnessed almost everywhere the newly launched iPhone versions were introduced in stores. There is no denying the fact that no other smartphon maker commands as much loyalty as Apple and no other company is able to sell handsets in such large number as iPhones. In the last year alone Apple was able to sell as many as 187 million units of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

In nations where iPhone has not been launched, it is selling at further premium in grey market where orders are placed in the US or other nations where it is available and then shipped to such nations.

iPhone 6s shipping begins sept 25Though there is no change in the form factor of the two handsets or any other major upgrade, it comes with an improved camera and a screen feature Apple calls ‘3D Touch’, which performs different functions depending on how hard a user presses.

In the meantime a report by Reuters suggests that people were most excited by a more low-tech feature: the ‘rose gold’ finish, a new shade that Apple introduced with the current phone. Reports suggest that this version actually accounted for more than a third of early in-store sales.

In the meantime in cities like San Francisco and New York City, hundreds of people queued for hours in serpentine queues to get hold of the handset. It is expected that in the first weekend alone, the Cupertino based tech giant will sell as many as 13 million phones. Last year it was around 10 million units that the company sold in the first weekend.
