NBA Trade Rumors 2015: Philadelphia 76ers up for sale, to go for Portland’s CJ McCollum, latest update
NBA trade rumors are not showing any sign of slowing down. On the contrary as the date nears, it will only go up. Many big names are on the trade list and every few days more names are being added to the list.
In the meantime the NBA trade rumors with the Philadelphia 76ers heightened as the motives behind the Jerry Colangelo are being questioned.
A report in the Forbes claims that the team is up for sale at the moment and the owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, Joshua Harris, has decided to get rid of it as soon as possible, provided he gets good price for the struggling team. The team that is owned by billionaires Harris and David Blitzer is on sale due to the fact that they want to concentrate on NFL completely. Reports suggest that in the long term, an NFL franchise in London is more lucrative than any NBA team.
While talking about the speculation, a Forbes report says, “They’re more interested in getting the NFL in London than they are in the NBA…Their No. 1 goal is to get the NFL team in London. They want to flip the Sixers anyway.'”
In the meantime there are reasons to believe that the move of hiring Jerry Colangelo was allegedly facilitated by the NBA and now it is speculated that Harris may have sought help to fast-track the improvement of the team (as opposed to GM Sam Hinkie’s “Process”) so that it will gain market value. As of now, with a 1-22 record, the market value of the team is abysmal and will only be sold based on their future, which is uncertain.
In the meantime the team management wants to have someone to show off. Anyhow they are not expected to play the playoffs, nonetheless the team needs to have a crowd-drawer to attract attention and eventually, potential buyers. They need to get rid of any of two players Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor in order to be able to acquire a scorer/point guard.
Now there are speculations that they may trade Nerlens Noel for Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. The Wizards have a strong backcourt and weak frontcourt so it makes sense on the surface, but the Wizards have an agenda of their own (recruiting Kevin Durant). A more viable option is the Portland Trail Blazers. They could sell high on CJ McCollum, their explosive combo guard who emerged as a real player this season. Noel is a defensive center that could be one of their foundation players in the future. The Blazers could also add Noah Vonleh, a power forward who can start alongside Okafor.
