NBA Trade Rumors 2016: Where Cleveland Cavaliers’ Timofey Mozgov is headed for
There is no denying the fact that trade rumors are not going to stop till February 19 when the whole issue will come to its logical end. But till that happens the rumors will continue to spiral and will become wilder as the trade deadline comes close.
In the meantime there are rumors doing the rounds that Cleveland Cavaliers are going to trade Timofey Mozgov in the days to come. If reports are to be believed, the Cleveland Cavaliers had their off the court issues recently and another thing that may be hurting them is the massive luxury tax bill they are set to pay after this season.
The massive 7.1 feet Russian basketball player of the Cleveland Cavalier has been with the team for the last one year. On June 4, 2015, he became the first Russian to play in the NBA Finals, as the Cavaliers lost Game 1 of the series to the Golden State Warriors. The Cavaliers went on to lose the series in six games, as Mozgov played in and started all six games.
In the meantime General Manager Dan Gilbert said he does not care about spending the money but if they can shed some salary without hurting their chances to win a title. This could mean that trading Timofey Mozgov may be an option. The rumors revolving around Mozgov’s availability intensified due to the fact that he’s hitting open free agency in the coming summer. Moreover, he has been demoted to a bench role, and his minutes reduced from last year’s 26 minutes per game to this season’ 18 minutes, fueling speculation that the Cavaliers are ready to trade him.
Right now nothing is certain in this regard. There is no denying the fact that at the moment the Cavs could not be influenced to trade Mozgov. They got him from Denver Nuggets a season ago for the price of two protected first round picks. Mozgov’s role in the Cavs’ title run last season was important, though it has since gotten smaller. Furthermore, with Tristan Thompson as a starter, Mozgov’s role only further diminished.
