NBA trade rumors 2016: Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Martin has many options
Kevin Martin’s trading rumors are nothing new. For the last several weeks or even months the rumors about his trade are doing the rounds.
Despite the fact that the 6.7 feet baseball player is not performing very well, or even finding avenues to perform and impress, there still may be several takers for him.
How much he has played in the last few weeks can be gauged by the fact that Kevin Martin remained on court for just 16 minutes on Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets.
It must be added here that as Martin is 32 years old he can still fill it up on offense and this is the reason why some teams are showing interest in him. The main hurdle for the teams is Martin has a player option worth more than $7 million for next season and it is unknown whether he plans to accept or decline that. Some reports claimed that the Memphis Grizzlies were planning to swap Courtney Lee for Martin but they are reluctant to take that option since they can’t take on salary for next season because they need to pay Mike Conley.
Marti with great build actually plays the shooting guard position. With a career points per game average of 18.0 (as of the 2014–15 season), he has established himself as one of the most efficient scorers in the NBA. Despite his unorthodox shooting stroke and skinny frame, he makes significant contributions offensively. He is also known for his quickness. Martin goes to the free throw line frequently and shoots a great percentage; he led the NBA in free throws made in 2010–11.
On the other hand there is no doubt that the Timberwolves are willing to trade Martin because they want to build a team with young players particularly at shooting guard. Andrew Wiggins is a budding star and Zach LaVine has proven he has the potential to perform well at the NBA level so they have no playing time available for Martin. The NBA has no dearth of teams which could recruit Martin, Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls. Martin is out of Minnesota’s rotation it seems unlikely he will return much for the Timberwolves but they will take whatever they can get for him.
