NBA Rumors 2015: Brooklyn Nets’s love for Mike Conley goes up in 2016 Free Agency for many reasons
There is no denying the fact that things are not looking very good for the Brooklyn Nets right now. They have suffered mot one or two, but as many as four losses one after the other and they are looking like a sinking ship.
This is a terrible start and the whole team seems to be looking down and out at the moment. Though there are teams that have come out of similar or even worse situations, the Brooklyn Nets seem to have already given up.
Now they want their team to improve. This is the reason that the Nets will have a lot of cap space heading into 2016 free agency, and they are expected to heavily pursue Mike Conley next summer. Nonetheless Conley was probably the top of the All-Star snub list, and not too many believe that if he were in the East (without Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Chris Paul) and being in the biggest market like New York would boost his chances.
One thing that may attract him towards the Nets is the fact that he will have an old supporter there in the form of the coach. The Nets offer an extra incentive because his former coach Lionel Hollins is there. They have forged a strong point guard-coach bond as any in the league. It must be noted that Conley has strong ties to Memphis Grizzlies, just like Marc Gasol. Last year, Gasol was the coveted free agent, courted by the Spurs, Knicks and Lakers. He never even had a meeting scheduled.
Marc while talking about it Gasol Gasol said “Mike being in Memphis was big. I will go through any type of wall for that guy.” But the Spaniard would not use that to oblige Conley. Conley options are very tempting. If Memphis struggles, the Knicks have a decent team now. His “second father” doesn’t have much, but they also have a center in Brook Lopez. He could help immensely.
